The Coorong

The Coorong is approx 2-3 hrs South of Adelaide (depending on whether you drive a slow diesel or fast petrol!).  The sand driving is unbelievable and just seems to go on forever.  You could easily spend a couple of days or more without back tracking and doing the same track twice.  It starts at Policemans Point and if you want to drive for quite a while you can finish up at Robe / Beachport.

As per usual the important thing is to let down your tyres and always take a compressor so if you choose to take the black top back home you don't have to sit on 60km/h until you get to the next servo.

Camping is excellent with 40+ camping sites all similar to the one below.  All tucked in behind the dunes, you are protected from the wind which isn't uncommon for this coast line.  Fires are permitted but only below the high tide mark as this is a national park so coming across someones fire from weeks ago is not going to happen at the designated camp sites.

On our last trip we almost rolled one car (female drivers!).  Tried to miss the drop off on the RHS but did an overkill and moved over to the left a bit too much.  Nothing a shovel on the LHS didn't fix.

I'm glad the driving is always good at the Coorong because my fishing skills have not improved over the years.  Suppose to catch Salmon along the coast line but all I have caught is seaweed and a hangover.  Good excuse to sit out on the beach and drink icy cold beer from the fridge.
